Celebrate the 4th July!

We’ve created some Independence Day inspired decorations this week to get ready to celebrate on July 4th!

Ideally, you need crepe paper to make these, but tissue paper or even plain paper that you’ve coloured in, would also work. You’ll also need scissors, glue, an empty toilet roll, blue paint, white paper, green garden wire and some string.
4th july craft
To make your paper flowers and vase, first, paint your toilet roll blue then cut out some white stars from your paper and glue them on. We created a base for our vase with some extra cardboard from a cereal box, although this isn’t essential as your flowers will sit perfectly in the vase on a shelf and of course, no water is needed!

Next, cut your crepe paper into 5cm x 20cm strips and garden wire into 15cm pieces. Then cut along the edges to create the different petal shapes as shown in our example. You will now need to carefully run your glue along the bottom edge of each petal and start wrapping each one around the top of each wire. Aim to wrap two contrasting petals around each wire, we used white first then either blue or red but have a play and see what you like best. All your need to do now is arrange your flowers in your vase!

crafts for kids

We made fiesta-style bunting in the colours of the USA flag with our leftover pieces of crepe paper. This is so simple to do and adds instant colour to any space!
Cut your string as long as your want your bunting to be, then lay strips of 5cm x 20cm crepe paper along the string with glue in the centre of each piece so it can fold and stick to the string. We used doubled-sided tape to make it extra secure. Make sure to leave at least a 3cm gap between each strip and remember to alternate colours. Now you’re ready to decorate your home and celebrate 4th of July!
